First Day
Monday, August 20th, 2007Today was my first day on the job at 360Ed. I’m already working on some cool stuff as well as enjoying the startup vibe. I won’t say anymore because I probably shouldn’t talk about anything yet. The company’s still operating somewhat secretively.

Forced to Pick a Major in High School
Thursday, August 16th, 2007Forced to Pick a Major in High School - New York Times
This seems stupid to me. High school students should be encouraged to think about how their academic performance relates to their ultimate career goals; they should not be asked to choose from a set of majors that directly correlate to career paths. Think of all the career paths that are being directly excluded by this set of choices: “sports management, fine and performing arts, health sciences, international studies and global commerce, communications and new media and or liberal arts.”
A better system would be to have everyone take the same base of classes for the first two years of high school and then choose a broad specialization that is based on a categorization of academics, not of professions. For example, arts, sciences, humanities, mathematics and computing, or social sciences.

EPL
Saturday, August 11th, 2007The 2007-2008 EPL season kicked off today. Liverpool’s looking really good. Gerrard’s playing in the center, Riise on the left. Kuyt and Torres look like a dangerous duo up front. I’d say ‘Pool has a shot at the title this year if they can manage to stay in the kind of form they showed today for the whole season.
