Joel on Software

Joel Spolsky wrote a few books about software development that are pretty good. He also writes a blog. This morning I was read an essay he wrote: A Field Guide to Developers. It identifies all the reasons I didn’t like my last job.

Wow, that is pretty crazy how he stereotyped programmers, but correctly. The only complaint I have about my job is the salary and only because
“That doesn’t mean you can underpay people, because they do care about justice, and they will get infuriated if they find out that different people are getting different salaries for the same work, or that everyone in your shop is making 20% less than an otherwise identical shop down the road, and suddenly money will be a big issue.”
I guess we were all the whiney kids growing up that said, “That’s not faiiiirrr.”
